Cockerel Does the Submission Squat

I have a Serama cockerel. I know he's a cockerel because I can see hackle feathers coming in, and he crows every morning. The odd thing about him is that when I go to pick him up, he does the submission squat thing just like the hens do. Is this normal?

That's great it means he see's you as the boss and not a threat or competition. Anything that you can recall that you did to get him to think that way? Mine sees me as competition, trying to make him not see me like that.
