Oh, sorry it sounded like it was just 8 that were definitely hens. I agree that that does sound unlikely.

At least it is to many pullets rather then to many cockerels!

I don't ever want another cockerel with the one I have right now so yea fully agreed

In chickens and other birds, the mother determines the gender of the offspring.
So no, your cockerel is not the one doing it.

No, it's not under conscious control.

Random chance happens. I've hatched over 2/3 male in 3 batches this year.

Yea that makes sense, Its hard to put it down to luck. Only had 1 chick not survive too.

The odds of winning a big lottery are well over 1,000,000 to 1, yet people buy tickets. Those are long odds yet somebody has to hit them eventually.

I once got 7 pullets out of seven chicks. The odds of that are 128 to 1. The odds of getting 8 pullets out of 8 chicks are 256 to 1. The odds of getting 8 cockerels out of 8 chicks are also 256 to 1. Be glad you had the luck to get 8 pullets instead of the person that got those 8 cockerels. Pure luck.
