Cockerel or Pullet? 10 wk pics

CHICKEN #5 Question

New to the BYC, but looks like a very useful resource. Just started my flock in later April with birds from Tractor Supply and My Pet Chicken. My first four birds came from Tractor Supply and look very much like your Chicken #5. Was wondering what the breed is? I think TSC marked them as leghorns, but I don't think that is right, as they have the brown mottling throughout. I told the lady at TSC that I was looking for pullets and she said she could feather sex them. Well, I think she picked all roos for me, as they have developed fair sized combs and wattles. Any info you might have about the breed would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you have guessed it pretty good. Same as what I would guess. Only, #3(the one you were undecided on) I would say roo. Pretty chicks!

Sequin, thank you! Unfortunately I was hoping for more hens (Seeing as the roo's final destination will most likely be freezer world.) although I am glad that our 3 favorite are hens.

zookman, welcome to BYC!! I am also fairly new and I have learned ALOT from BYC. The people here are so friendly and helpful it's amazing.

As for your question, I believe he is a mix between our main rooster KJ (Araucana x a small RIR/Barred Rock I think) and one of our purebred Columbian Wyandottes. I'm thinking KJ as dad because his offspring tends to have lots of yellow neck feathers, also Chick #5 is a fairly good size so that's why I suspect the Columbian Wyandotte.

This is a picture of one of our older white cockerels which likely has the same parentage. I assume Chick #5 will look a lot like this guy when he's older. This cockerel is a good sized bird and very handsome, but we don't need another rooster so he's set aside for the freezer.

Thanks again everybody

ETA: Chick #5 will most likely have more brown and black on his back than the rooster I posted a picture of though.
