some have green tail feathers others don't.

Green sheen isn't always an indicator of a male. You need to be looking at the back feathers.

In the top photo, the bird on the left has very clearly visible male saddle feathers. The second picture also shows a bird with male saddle feathers. Notice how thin and pointed they are. The presence of those feathers, universally means male.
