Cockerel suddenly roosting alone

I have 2 cockerels, 8 month old speckled sussex and 7 month old blue laced gold wyandotte in my flock. The ss has been the dominant one but I'm thinking he may have lost the position. The wyandotte cockerel has started crowing first in the morning, idk if that's really a sign of whose alpha, the girls will squat for him but I've never seen them do it for the ss, and now tonight all the girls were roosting with the wyandotte and the ss was alone on his roost. Are these signs of a shift in dominance? When googling it mentioned being alone could also mean he's sick but with the changes mentioned above I'm not sure if he's just been demoted? Can anyone confirm my suspicion or tell what to look for if he's ill, I'm not seeing any signs illness.

Sounds like changes in dynamics. It may change again as they become more mature.

What to look for? Observe behavior. Signs of lethargy, not eating/drinking, hunching, etc. would be things of concern to me.
