Cockerels?

Hoping both Sebrights are pullets and 1 silkie is a roo and other silkies are pullets. Should I post the Sebrights or wait a while? I’ll wait to post the silkies. I have a BB red bantam that I’m 99.9 % sure is a pullet and 2 polish that were sold as pullets.

I see 6 photos. The first 4 look male to me, and I'm not sure about the next two.

Thanks! Is the hen to roo ratio different or the same for bantams? I have 12 chickens in that flock currently, but might be able to add a few more if need be.

It would depend a bit on the breed of bantam, but if you just want fertile eggs a bantam rooster can probably cover as many hens as a standard sized rooster, and for some breeds he may even do more.

But if you are worried about overmating and bald backs on the hens, the bantams being smaller & lighter might be fine with extra roosters (as compared with the ratios commonly recommended for standard breeds.)

The common advice of 10 hens per rooster is based on wanting to have all eggs be fertile while feeding as few roosters as possible in a large commercial flock. Some people keep a rooster with only one or two hens and they do fine, some other people keep a single rooster with 20 or more hens and the favorite few still have bald backs. It really depends on the individual roosters, and maybe a bit on the individual hens.

You might as well post the Sebrights. Either we'll have guesses on gender, or we'll say to try again when they're older ;)

Here’s the others besides the silkies. F8AE7D4F-9A9F-4198-86EE-274B440B16B3.jpeg A2ED1081-BE1A-4551-AB25-0C25573C99AC.jpeg 1A29122F-99B6-485E-B930-4873B4F47C03.jpeg 90F3092D-9441-449E-A69D-036CD3D2A148.jpeg 8CB0D4FC-BE96-4B30-9EE0-A17F11C2BE3A.jpeg

Hi y’all! I have 10 bantam chicks that are almost 4 weeks old and I have some suspicions of cockerels. I know they are young, but I’m just wondering if anyone can help me. The breeds are, blue Cochin, Millie fleur d’ Uccle, BTW Japanese bantam, and a golden neck d’ Uccle. I also have a suspicious Sebright, but I don’t think anyone can tell at 4 weeks. Thanks for any help!

All appear to be cockerels.

I thought if any the gold Sebright was a cockerel

That's what I thought too.

Obviously, different people can look at the same chick and think different things!
