In a loft is it better to have more hens or cocks? Having the same number I know would be best. In large flocks how is it possable with babbies always being born.

More hens than cocks, to avoid fighting. Then the extra hens will mate together and build nests with 4 clear eggs. The same will happen with extra cockbirds, but obviously they'd build a nest and not have eggs

Really it doesn't matter how many of each you have, as long as they all have their own perch and there's enough nest boxes for the amount of pairs (mated or not).

The best thing is to have one section for breeders and move the young out at weaning age. I was always told that it is easy to break up a hen to hen pair but if you have two males mate up its almost impossible to use them again. But as Mary said with enough perches its usually not a problem.
