Ok we compost A LOT! We use our chickens to turn the pile. I'm reading though that coffe grounds and egg shells in the pile are bad for our girls? We have never had a problem with this knock on wood, BUT if it's bad for them then maybe we should change it?

Now I take our eggshells and dry them out, crush em, and feed em back to our girls. I'm just more concerned about the coffee since I pratically live off it! lol

Anyone?

I have coffee grounds in my compost pile, and I've never had a problem with the chickens. The chickens are simply in heaven when they are scratching around the pile. Here are a couple of my girls scratching down one of the old piles:

I think the egg shells are OK, but I rinse & crush my eggshells as I throw 'em in the compost bucket. I do this so they are less recognizable as "eggs". I wouldn't want the girls to think it's a good idea to start eating eggs.

The only thing I keep out of the compost is raw potato peels.
Enjoy!

I think if the pile had some time at high temps (hot composting) first I would have no worries. Only "problem" I get is big eggs with a nice rich yellow yolk and lots of great flavor..

I've never had a problem, but just thought I would get another opinion. I read a lot of things, and sometimes it's hard to recognize what's true and what's myth.
