A few weeks ago one of my two chicks got killed. The chicks were about 7 weeks old and the mom was starting to push them away. Since there was only one chick I got 2 Cochin chicks that were about the same age as the single chick for companions. It is very nice so far since the three roam the yard together.
I am wondering about the egg size of the cochins when my barred rock begins to fertilize them since Cochins lay medium eggs and Rocks lay large eggs. Will it cause the chickens to produce large eggs? If so, will that cause problems for the hens? Should I separate the group of 3 from the rooster?
Any advice will be great. The chicks are now about 9 weeks old. Thanks.
