Cold chicks?

I moved my 9 wk old chicks from the basement to their new coop which is insulated. They certainly appear to be fully feathered and the lowest temp at night has been 65 degrees. They all huddled in the corner in the evening and I'm sure thru the night like they are cold.
Should I put the brooder light in there for night time?
I would think if they are fully feathered, this temperature should not bother them.

They are just used to huddling together. Eventually they will learn to roost.

I think it wouldnt hurt, although i have 7 week old chicks and they are in the barn in a dog cage with straw in it and straw bales around it and i cover it up with a horse saddle blanket at night to keep in the warmth..it gets around 50's here at night right now..and rainy..yeck..

I would put the light in and let them have the option of standing under it.

I've got some 8 week old SLW that have been in an outside tractor for 2 weeks and today I turned them out with the big ones. They huddle because that's what they are used to doing. Once they are fully feathered they are hardier than you imagine.

My 6-week old tweens have been outside in the coop since last weekend. Our overnight lows are in the 40s here in Western Washington. They huddle out of habit and don't need a heater.

That said, my adult banty cochin l-o-v-e-s a heat lamp. Put one near her and she becomes a heat-absorbing hussy. She even burned off some of her fluff last winter during a very cold stretch when we put a heat lamp in the coop.
