Cold Weather??

They don't need food or water overnight. Once it's dark, chickens can't see where the food and water is even if they did want a midnight snack. There is no point to it being left in a coop at night.

Yes but if they eat more they produce more body heat... pretty necessary where i live lol.

True, but they only eat when it's light out. They fill up their crops and go to sleep. It takes all night long for them to digest that food. And this person is only expecting temps in the teens. Hardly the arctic conditions that your birds endure.

I suppose that is true. Maybe a better idea to stick with what they know, then:thumbsup

They prefer to just roost on top of the coops at night.
This always makes me wonder if space and ventilation inside the coop is adequate for the number of birds expected to live there.
I guess they're OK sleeping outside as long as they have shelter from wind and preciptation.

Sorry for asking this...My Friend text me this morning at 6:20am.
It's -31C. She fed a warm mash of feed and scratch last night. This morning all birds seamed to have solid frozen crops....She brought them all in the house..Now the crops are getting smaller after drinking warm water. Is that possible ? :idunno

Probably better to start a new thread ;) but you know that.
I doubt it could actually freeze, but that mix without enough water could turn to a gummy mass unable to move.
