Collecting your eggs

OMG! Remember reading in your history books about the thousands of pioneers in this country who died on the prairies from eating non refrigerated eggs? Yes, and in third world countries where there is no refrigeration at all, even today, they can't even eat eggs or they'll die! How about asking Congress to pass a bill to send them money to buy refrigerators in poor countries so those people can finally eat eggs! In fact, we should impose sanctions on Europe until they stop selling unrefrigerated eggs on the shelves of their grocery stores! Oh yes, we are much safer with goverment "food safety" laws. Oh, and it should also be illegal to sell fresh eggs off a farm not overseen by the FDA.

Couple times a day, the kids and grand kids feud over who gets to do it

We collect once a day (maybe twice on weekends if I'm out in the coop anyway) and none of my girls are morning layers, not one! We never have eggs before 1:00 in the afternoon, most are laid between 2:00PM and 5:00PM. Sometimes I walk out with my toddler and we'll collect the eggs after dinner, otherwise I get them when I close the coop up for the night.

i collect eggs once a day when i close the coop up even tho i am home all day. i have girls who will lay just as the sun is going down so i just wait to get them all at once.

Careful, now. That's a terribly paternalistic proposal, and much depends on which way the wind is blowing this week, as to whether allowing them to have eggs will be an incremental supplement to their often inadequate diets, or simply our imperial contribution to clogging the arteries of the huddled masses.
