College pranks or animal cruelty?

There's a huge difference between "making a mistake" (and let's face it, this was NO mistake) and actually doing harm to another living being with malicious intent. I've made many mistakes and done some pretty stupid things without engaging my brain but never, ever set out to hurt an animal for entertainment. Remember that several serious mental disorders begin with animal cruelty.

I realize all of this, I was using cow tipping as an example and no I never did such a thing I think it is cruel. I know MANY people who HAVE and they are not serial killers or have any other kind of mental defect other that they were stupid kids.

I am playing devil's advocate here......

Do you really think there was that much though put into this prank? It just sounds like some kids got drunk and did something dumb. Happens all the time. People who do not know a darn thing about animals would not think twice about the harmful effects of spray paint on an animal.

I am sure the ASPCA and PETA will get involved and the people responsible will be punished appropriately.

No, I don't think there was much that thought put into but the mere fact that the instant they decided to pull some stupid stunt the target just had to be a helpless animal instead of any number of inanimate objects they might have chosen is worrisome. I also know that not everyone who has tipped a cow over or shaved a cat or whatever is a raging psychopath but it's a good thing I'm not the judge on this case. Who's going to be the target next time? Some young child or woman?

College prank is spray painting the testicles on Gen Morgan's horse statue pink every year. Not injuring a live animal. That is animal cruelty.

FYI, Gen Moragn's horse was a mare. The testicles were added to the statue after the original statue was errected in front of the old Governement Courthouse in down town Lexington, KY. Apperently some male lawmaker back in the day didn't care about actual history and felt it was "unmanly" for General Morgan to be riding anything but a stallion.

Or shooting paint ball guns at unsuspecting people riding their bike or driving their car down the road. People have died from such stupidity.

I can say ASPCA but not that? I am not an advocate or trying to stir the pot I was just making a reference.

JMHO they are old enough to know that spray paint will harm a living animal. They know better, but they chose to be cruel. They need to be punished.

The assumption that it's OK for college age people to be excused because of their age is insulting to normal college age people. If they aren't mature enough to know basic right from wrong by the time they graduate high school, they are either criminal or have a mental defect that has nothing to do with their age. Even if their parents were morons that had no business raising kids, people over 18 must be held responsible for their actions in a civil society. I wouldn't have done that at their age. My son is 26 and my daughter is 22. Even when they were 12, they would have known better. Society shouldn't give these people an excuse for such stupidity. The brain may still be changing at that age, but they know right from wrong. The desire to be reckless is no reason to be cruel to people or animals. 99.9% of people that age are able to overcome the immature desire to purposely harm an innocent. The small minority that can't overcome that desire should be sterilized so they don't pass on the trait.

I get sick of people calling every action they make a "mistake". They chose to deliberately harm an animal. That's not a mistake, that's on purpose. People who hurt defensless animals or children or anyone who is vulnerable on purpose have serious problems. Think about this, they had no concern about the pain or terror of those birds - is that someone you want running around without a mark on thier record? I guess so - later people will be so surprised when someone like that is put in charge of babies or kids or whatever. I was a college age kid once, and no amount of drunkeness or coersion could have made me participate in that.

I hope they get the full extent of the law...
i was young and dumb once too...but i never harmed animals.
What in the he&& is wrong with people??
