I have just realized that my red/goldens I got from peepsnbunnies eggs are a pair!!
ya.gif
And the 2 reds that I bought at auction are a week older at least. The only crowing bird in that pen is the red/golden roo, so I'm thinking my reds are both girls. (maybe it is sex-linked Niki??)

Anyway, so looks like I might need to do some rearranging again. Right now, the red/goldens and reds are in the same pen, should I leave them this way? What would the chicks result as?

Here's the list (again

) of my pens, not counting this one. So let me know what you think I should do with these reds and red/goldens.

PEN 1 is my jumbo browns. I have 9 hens and 2 roos in this pen.

PEN 2 is my A&M pen. I have 5 hens and 1 roo in this pen.

PEN 3 is my tuxedo pen. I have 1 roo (dark tibetan) and 4 hens (2 dark tibetan tuxedo, 1 orange tibetan tuxedo, and 1 dark tibetan) in this pen.

PEN 4 is my golden/rosetta pen. There are 4 females (1 golden, 1 rosetta, 1 rosetta tibetan, 1 pharaoh) and 1 male golden.

By "red golden" are you meaning the ones with tibetan markings that really look red? Or are you meaning the ones that are patterend like a normal brown but more cinnamony (known as Red here in the states or cinnamon in the UK)? If the first i'd personally breed the two colors separately. You could put them in with your A &M s for red golden (cinnamon tibetan) tuxedos I'd avoid putting them in with your already made tuxedos, you might get more rosettas than more red goldens but if you have the time to switch and swap until you get it right go for it!

The ones I'm referring to are the ones that look like normal browns, but are redder. I'm confused? I thought those were the red/goldens? So the reds are the ones with the yellow spiky feathers on their backs (that look like browns only redder), that can be sexed by their breast feathers? And the red/goldens are the ones that have tibetan markings?

Hi,

I'm totally confused too with all these names lol.

Here, the Normal and range come in many varieties/colours.
They are know as:-

Normal ( brown wild type)
Cinnamon (wild type with cinnamon plumage (more light brown/reddish colour)
Fawn (wild type, but orangey/fawn)

There are many other colours which I won't go into now, I'm getting them together now so I can take photo's of them in the near future.

It sounds to me, you have got a pair of Cinnamons. (wild plumage with brown/reddish with cream shaft feathers on back)

Now is your question, what colours to pair them up with?

Here in the UK, there has been no work done on the genetics (to my knowledge) and I doubt anyone has recorded the out come of any crosses. In the Usa, the cinnamon is reletive new over there and therefore you really don't know what the outcome of any mixed variety/colour mating will be produced.

Until records are kept I don't know honestly what the outcomes are.
I'm now getting together a number of groups so I can record outcomes of certain mixes and in time will post results.

Normal X Normal = 100% normals (males and females)
Normal Male X Cinnamon Females = ??
Cinnamon Male X Normal Females = ??
Normal male X Fawn Females =??
Fawn Male X Normal Females = ??
Cinnamon X Cinnamon = ??
Cinnamon Male X Fawn Females = ??
Fawn Male X Cinnamon Females =??
Fawn X Fawn = ??

These nine crosses are only a start (well some ones got to do it, lol) and will take probably years to find out the results of all the different crosses of all the mutations.

Ironsun.

Ironsun, I'm pretty sure she's meaning Cinnamons

And fawns are really rare in the us, I only know one breeder with them right now (and I will be getting them soon) so shelley don't worry about fawns just yet as we dont have them ....YET

And yes, I went back and rechecked you're "call me an idiot" thread, and I did have them mixed up. The reds (aka cinnamons) are the ones that can be sexed by their breast feathers, and I have 2 of those. 1 is male, 1 is female. The red/goldens I also have 2 of, and they are at least a week older than the reds. The only one crowing in that cage is the male red. So I'm thinking I have 2 female red/goldens, and a pair of reds. So now the fun begins!! Really sucks that I won't have money for more cages until their laying season is almost done

So I won't get to play for a while probably. Maybe next month I'll be able to get some more cages, so I can experiment

With my past experiences, especially with a rooster around, they will let you know if they get along or not. If they don't create troubles amongst themeselves, leave 'em be...
