Color genetics thread.

Curious as to whether anyone knows more about the bobtail Cochin genetics yet? So far I've picked up that they come from black reds and breed like an extreme recessive, possibly with sex linked components. I'm going to play around with mine a bit, but I'm still quite curious about the relationship of lavender to the bobtail. I have some lavender bantam Ameraucana - will probably make a few Easter eggers with Ameraucana x bobtail just to see what the color does.

I created this thread when I was 14 I can’t believe it has gotten this many comments on it. That is crazy. Chickens and there genetics are still just as interesting now at 20 years old as they were when I was 14. And I want some bobtails so bad, glad to see they are taking a hold in America.

View attachment 1065276 Birches might be it check out these Pekin Blue Birchen... Bobtail could be same basic genetics minus the lacing? And maybe something that dilutes the males more?

I'm doubting it's anything to do with blue, as they breed true and we all know blue doesn't. So perhaps a lavender birchen. You say without the lacing, but the lacing is giving them the white edges. So I would be more inclined to suspect double lacing, resulting in a total loss of the inner colour . The males on the other hand are a little more perplexing. Not to mention the chick's down colour. These are my pure bobtail babies... you might also want to note that the males are clearly paler that the females at this stage. Yet still displaying the orange coloured down...

if they are breeding true then yeah Lavender also called self blue makes sense
