Hello,
I will start off by saying last year I was surprised when one of my black jersey giant hens hatched 3 blue chicks. This first picture will help you understand what those chicks' father looked like, because I don't know what breed he was.

Now I am trying to figure out the specific color name of the blue chick that grew up to be a roo, so I can predict coloration of any of his future offspring. Here is my blue roo, whose father is pictured above:

He's already fathered three chicks this year with one of my speckled Sussexes. I am little confused as to how they got these colors based on my own research into chicken genetics. So hopefully this wasn't too confusing and someone can help me.
Sorry for the bad photo. The chicks are all in the picture, blue one is behind mom.

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

First rooster looks Splash with red leakage... bred to Black should give 100% blue offspring.. but your boy you're asking about looks more splash or lavender than blue.

One of your parent stock may have some hidden genes throwing more color possibilities than we think the should.

Cute babes!

Speckled is the same as Mottled, I believe. And the SS, are kinda like mille fleur but mahogany based. I never figured out the best color term to use on the calculator for those.

Sorry I can't be more help. The more I participate, the more I learn! :pop

Yeah I was expecting only blue or black babies from him but that brown one threw me for a loop. I was wondering what the lav/blue roo's yellowish accents might be and if I can even add that as a factor. Thanks for the advice! I will try adding him in as a splash to see what happens.
