Ok (We are very new to keeping chickens ) little wifey says I want preety chickens so can any one tell me about the 2 breeds Deleware and the light Sussex they look the same and I think they are preety enough for us I drew the line a silkies dount like them at all , we live on a small farm and we free range about everyday in the evening I want a bird that can forage and that will get along well with my other girls any help would be great ,,,,,,, Fluff

I don't know about Delewares but I have kept Sussex and they are a good layer, will also make a good table bird and come in a variety of colour/patterns that are simply beautiful....light, buff, silver, speckled, coronation, red and white. A really good all rounder who forage well and are amenable in temperament.

she,s now added Blue laced wyandottes I'm glad that hatchery's don't sell penguins lol

There are so many beautiful, colourful and practical breeds out there. Wyandottes are another dual purpose breed that will meet all your practical requirements but also come in some amazing colours and patterns....let your 'little wifey' have her way and you will still get your free range foragers to boot! That way, 'little wifey' doesn't become 'angry wifey' or worse, 'you don't love me, you never let me have anything wifey' and decide you need caponising in your sleep!!! Lol!

she wasnt all that impressed with my chickens and now she wants more and more (been trying to teach her chicken math ) and she dont care what they cost so I got to let her win all but the silkies lol here is what she wants

silver laced wyandottes
deleware , light sussex ,columbian wyandottes any of them cause they look the same according to her lol

I want eggs and bug eaters ! and all of them to get along

She is right....the light Sussex, Deleware and columbian Wyandotte do all look very similar. The Wyandotte and the Sussex are dual purpose whereas the Deleware were 'designed' as a meat bird. The Deleware are also now classed as a rare breed.

There's no reason why they won't all get along and they will all eat your bugs so looks like she can have free reign!

If you only knew ! I cant tell mama NO ! She puts up alot from me ! so I let her win alot
