We have three barred rock hens, I've heard that the eggs are commonly brown, but ours seem to be very pale. Is there any way to make the color darker by feeding them something different? Also does anyone know where I can find a list of breeds, and what color eggs they produce as well as shade? Thanks
My Barred Rock was a light brown layer too. If you want darker eggs you will have to go with another breed; my Orpington lays lovely, medium-brown speckled eggs. The latest fad is for the super-dark chocolate browns of the Welsummers, and especially Marans.
