Color pattern on muscovy?

Hi Miss Lydia!

Long time since I last came onto the website....

Your duckling looks so much like the 6 I just purchased at a local market.... I am so pleased to hear your comments that yours is a Muscovy.... when I purchased mine I was told that they were Muscovy but I had serious doubts - my mind is at rest now as mine are so much like your duckling!

Hope you are keeping well!!!

Suzie

hope all has been well with you and yours!

Hi Miss Lydia,

Some deaths with chickens, had to cull some of the geese as when Boss was killed it was an awful time with the males fighting - however, managed to hatch 6 goslings and they are very tame - as you are now aware I purchased new ducklings two weeks ago - so cute!

I have been in Hospital for surgery, I an so frustrated as the wounds haven't yet healed and I can't risk infection from my geese, ducks, chickens, horses and donkeys - at least I can visit them AFTER their respective night-time accommodation has been cleaned and disinfected ( well, that is what I tell my other half anyway....), life is good thanks to my animals!!!

I have some new chicks - my Silkie's Maman and Tweebie have 3 between them, one is yellow and black, one black and one is definately a silkie... c'est la vie.... one of my girls has been got at by an alien!!! Love them all..... I adore it when a chick hatches ... new life - amazing!

Keep well!!!

Suzie

I just recently sold my only young barred & wild-type ducklings So i don't have a picture of them together but i will see if i can find seperate pictures so you guys can see the difference in juveniles.

Also, barred ducklings are yellow with colored tail-tips at hatch & sometimes colored bills and feet (sometimes they're just pink too).

Well I couldn't find a picture of the little wild type drake i had. but here's one of my juvenile Barred Hen, she had even more barring when she was younger and they usually slowly color in darker... Mystical moms is very barred for an adult!

Very pretty Bleenie, now when you say wild type what do you mean? My one drake I have I thought was wild type but maybe wild type doesn't mean the same as i am thinking. This is the only pics I have of him on BYC.

What I mean by wild type is the "patterning" on the babies chest, kind of looks like scales. They molt this out as they get their adult feathers... now that I am thinking more about it I may be talking about Atipico... ugh. BYC'er rollyard is good with the genetics, i am not too great at explaining the genetics, lol

.

Anyway, the scale-looking "pattern" is not actually a pattern, i believe. The only patterns in Muscovy are Laced, Barred, Ripple & Self & your little guy isn't any of those. Still cute though!
