This little standard Cochin is 1 week old and I'm wondering about its color. Dad is white and mom is probably blue. I assumed it was a blue until I noticed the white feathers coming in on the wing tips. Now I'm thinking maybe splash??? I've never had a splash so not sure what they look like as chicks.
Thanks for any advice in advance!!!
So it's been over a week and all 4 black chicks have varied amounts of white speckles on feet, wings, and chest. Would this be considered black with white leakage? Just curious.
You need to wait until the birds are about 6-8 weeks old to determine their actual color. chicks go through juvenile plumage patterns that have little in common with the adult colors sometimes. Especially since you're dealing with mixed colors, your birds may not fit a standard color.
Thanks so much for the advice. Unfortunately, although I'm extremely patient in so many areas of life chickens just aren't one of them. They are only 4 weeks and I even find myself trying to guess gender on a daily basis. It's okay though. It just gives me an excuse to go sit with them some more!
