I just thought I'd add that the Rangers seem to be developing at different rates. I've got some that are still quite small, whereas others aren't very far behind the cornish x's.

And while I'm posting, I'll also note that I've got orders for around 75 chickens, and I've only got 67 total. I want at least 15 for myself (probably all the rangers), which leaves perhaps 50 for everyone else. Obviously, I'm going to have to tell some new customers that they can't have as many as they would have liked, as I want to give preference to existing customers. It makes me wonder if I should build yet another pen for next year (that would be pen #3). With only 1 acre devoted to chickens, I'm afraid of getting too carried away, but 200 to 250 chickens per year probably isn't bad.

will's right. don't make it work. raise the next batches price by 25 cents a pound and you'll get enough to leave and you won't have to carry more chickens until you are really ready to.

I buy 50lb bags from a farming friend of mine. She buys the premix, and then uses their own grain. She's normally about $2/bag cheaper than TSC right now ($13/bag vs $15+/bag). I'll probably go through 20-25 bags with this bunch.

Mine were processed yesterday. The dressed weight was 3.0-4.0 lbs. That's a perfect size for me as I find it sells better than 10 lb birds do.

I might have stunted them a little bit. I ran out of feed a few times last month and ended up just throwing out the compost bucket for them to feed on. I also let them range a little too much I think.
