Being from Aus, I am going to be as useful as the proverbial with regards to cold weather

However, I see that you have already received some great advice and just wanted to say that I hope you enjoy BYC; not only is it overflowing with lots of useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures about chickens, turkeys, duck, quail, Peas and pretty much any other feathered and non feathered friends

Hi C&H,

Although I'm a bit south of you, I'm probably close to the same altitude.  I've got my birds in an unheated coop and they've been fine for the past few years.  They are wearing down coats after all. 

Make sure you have good ventilation, and that their roost is wide enough so that their bodies cover their toes while roosting.

I'm in WV where it's currently 16 and blowing to beat the band. There's no snow on the ground. My chickens have access to shelter besides their coop, water and feed outside of their coop. They're used to being out and about a BIG Yard, field. Let em out?
