Colorado ChickenFest 2013

The processing demo was a hit! I was glad to have it done in the hands of the experienced, while helping enough to be able to do this on my own, provided i get the equipment. It was a great experience for my son, to see how he handled it too. I think this is a must have for future fests!! I never expected to process any of my birds, although i wasnt opposed to it. You never know when that rooster will be the one! The coop is much more peaceful now.

You can add mealworm farming to the display list... its pretty straight forward and can simply be an exhibit!

And we should bring our own chairs

It really was a great day and I am glad we made the trek!
Thanks Wendell and family for hosting this, and I look forward to next year!

Glad it was a good learning esperience for him!
Good ideas. Lets keep them coming!

Great ideas! This looks like the beginning of planning for the next one. I am volunteering now. :)
Great! What did you want to do?

If we have it at Metcaff park in Fountain, I will bring a Dominique display and some birds for exhibition. If I have some chicks I may have them for sale. We'll see. If we do it at my place, I can do another demo if that is what people want.

I also think its fun to show folks the difference between exhibition strains vs hatchery strains of the same breed of chicken. .....

The fees for Metcalf park in Fountain are as follows

51 to 100 people. 75.00
101 to 200. People 100.00. +100 refundable deposite
200 plus people. 150.00 + 100 refundable deposite

All in all not to bad. We could set up on the north east corner and have plenty of space for displays and such. I would be willing to donate. Maybe as wendel said, we could get some sponsers to help offset the cost. Maybe a small fee/donation for vendors. Im just throwing out some ideas. Thoughts?

And they have restrooms. If we charged say, $10 per vendor, we could offset that even more. Of course we could also invite the Colorado Poultry Association, 4H, etc. I didnt want to go there the first year, but now that we have an idea of what we can expect, it's not as "scary"

Do they do a calendar out this far in advance?

Proposal:

We form a ChickenFest committee/board, with a chairperson and at least 3 committee/board members. This committee would put together ChickenFest, finalize a location, form a budget, solicit funds, advertise, find sponsors, establish rules, fees, etc and carry off ChickenFest 2014

Sounds like a good plan.

So: I am available to be involved. Who else? Sam? Pichuris? Pozees? It might be to our advantage to have this initial committee be somewhat local, but probably not a requirement. Should we put this out on the FB group as well? As of today there are 130 members of the Colorado Chickens FB group.

Sorry I couldn't make it last weekend. Had a "date" in Denver. I would be happy to help in any way, as I hear it was a blazing success. Keep in mind, I never plan a year ahead. We could have a 'winterfest' in Franktown
