Colorado ChickenFest 2013

Proposal:

We form a ChickenFest committee/board, with a chairperson and at least 3 committee/board members. This committee would put together ChickenFest, finalize a location, form a budget, solicit funds, advertise, find sponsors, establish rules, fees, etc and carry off ChickenFest 2014

Sounds like a great plan!

So: I am available to be involved. Who else? Sam? Pichuris? Pozees? It might be to our advantage to have this initial committee be somewhat local, but probably not a requirement. Should we put this out on the FB group as well? As of today there are 130 members of the Colorado Chickens FB group.

I'm not local to the springs, but would be willing to help out. I'm a stay home mom so I have the time for travel. One suggestion, if we're looking at public places, Monument or Castle Rock would help attract more people from up North. Not having to deal with the constant issue of I25 traffic in the north end of Colorado Springs is a big plus. (I don't think I've ever been to the Springs when there isn't construction on I-25.)

Another possibility is that any excess money be refunded to the exhibitors/vendors/demonstrators on a set schedule. That way there is no profit and no weird laws/rules to deal with.

Good point. You are correct about I-25 traffic at the North end of Springs. Who might be able to help us out with a location for ChickenFest II in that area?

I totally forgot this was happening. The pictures look as if everyone had a great time. I really would like to plan on attending next year and am willing to help out with the planning.

I live on a ranch in Calhan but work in Colorado Springs as an accountant. We have all kinds of poultry: chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, guineas. I have lots of experience with birds, have a fodder system, a fermented feed system, and a whiz bang plucker.

I would like the information on the FB Colorado chicken group page.

For Colorado Chickens, do a search for Colorado Chickens and join. Either Judi or myself will approve you quickly.

Good point. I wonder if we should also look into creating a fund for supporting chicken keepers affected by a disaster - Wendell, last year you talked about some of us being able to provide temporary shelter/care for those affected by fires, and I wonder if we should have a fund to provide for that? I don't have a clue how to establish or structure it, but it's something we might consider.
