Colorado

wsimth i am jealous of your set up. there is no way i could do all of that building. (i wish i had the land)

but my 8x8 has four walls, a floor, a roof (without shingles), and the doors, now all i need to do is the sill the holes, and paint the inside, build the nesting boxes, roost, broody, and supplies cabinet.

i seen a 'poop broad' under a roost and they PDZ sand, has anyone used this 'kitty box' in the coops? if so how does it work in Colorado, were their any issues?

I used PDZ for about 8 months in our coop. At first it seems easier, but scooping everyday gets old fast. And, it's gross. I don't have cats for the specific reason of hating litter box clean up, so the chickens were just as bad.
But, it worked just fine with our weather. I scooped the poo into a big bucket, but wasn't really sure what to do with it all. I deep litter now, and that's been much easier.

Thx.

my houses aren't insulated, a couple of the little ones have shingles (working on that).

I don't like "poop boards", too stinky. I prefer Deep Litter. Every couple of weeks I assist in mixing it into the bedding. I need to clean out the chicken houses. For the big one its been 6 months.....I just keep adding.

Here is a bit of news...... Not sure how many on our Colorado thread have seen this.....https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...-zuckerberg-facebook-partnership-beakbook/280

My March total was 177 eggs out of 8 - 2 year olds, 2 - 3 yo, 2 -  4 yo = 12 hens total   I have 4 new ones just starting to lay, like 2 eggs total so far and then 10 replacement pullet chickies and more eggs in the incubator to see what pops out.  The 4 year olds have names and are the original flock starters of this whole thing.

I guess I did ok with just under 100 eggs in March from 4 ladies. I get nearly two dozen a week.

Hi All,
I am trying to catch up tonight on all of the posts.... I've been crazy busy trying to get the new garden built.

Black Copper Marans... there is a nice lady named Holly in Black Forest who sells her eggs. I have her email address if anyone wants it.
She sold me 15 eggs for 20 dollars and I got 10 chicks to hatch. I believe she has a BCM rooster and 4 blue copper hens. I hatched 4 black, 3 greys, 2 whites and a splash.
I would love Holly's contact info. Thanks!

Hey Colorado Peeps, I currently have 54 RIR eggs and 18 Buff Brahma eggs. They are all under a week old, some today. Anyway I won't be ready to start another batch for over a week, so if anyone is interested let me know. I am in Canon City.
