Is anyone in the Colorado Springs area selling eggs? Some people on the local freecycle forum put up posts saying they want some good, fresh eggs from happy, healthy chickens. I figured someone here might be able to help
Hi there! I am in the Colorado Springs area (I live a bit south of Fountain) and I WAS going to sell eggs. I had what seemed like about a zillion extra eggs, so I posted on Craigslist. I got so many calls I ran out right away and realized I should be charging more like $4 a dozen for them. Turns out, I just don't have as many eggs as I thought. Now I have a regular customer who is buying all my excess eggs (cheaply, lol). I figured it out, if I could sell 64 dozen a day, I could pay off my house in about 3 years. I think I figured I would need something like 900 chickens to do that. I doubt my neighbors would appreciate that.
Anyhoo....I was happy to see a Colorado connection on here! I just love my chickens, and I plan to add some Black French Marans to the mix (gorgeous eggs)! I don't know if there is always such a demand for eggs from happy chickens, or if its just the health scare - what do you guys think?
I think part of it is the egg scare but a big part is people becoming aware of the problems with factory farming. The more people who see FOOD, INC and other documentaries (King Corn, Fathead, etc...) the more there will be demand for honest, wholesome, humanly raised food.
Hi Coloradoans! Welcome KZ!
I have 3 bantam cochin chicks ($2ea) for someone locally interested. They are mille fleur and black mottled/mfc. The upper one is dark buff with black spots, one looks black mottled and the other an unusual gray with a buff head. They would be pet quality, good for broodies or just fun in the yard.
Question for all you turkey raisiers or people who know turkey raisiers! We are looking to acquire some Bourbon Reds next spring because we would like to start raising them. Not just for a season, but for years. Anyone raise any and be willing to part with some poults/chicks? Or know someone who might?
Also does anyone know where I can get Osage Oranges? OO's are also known as *takes a deep breath* hedge, hedge-apple, bodark, bois-d'arc, bowwood, naranjo chino, mock apple, mock orange, brain fruit. settlers/pioneers used them as living hedges, and I'd like to do the same since we will have to replace various fences in several years and this way it will cut down on expenses. May be a bit time consuming, but really, what worth having isn't?
