Man, just came back in from being outside in a T shirt and jeans! Feels like a nice late March day out there. Sun is shining, light breeze and COOL vice COLD. When I opened my front door, I was hit by a blast of hot air from the sun beating on it. The chooks are liking it pretty well too

Actually, is a good idea to get a little sun on this pasty white skin so I don't burn in a couple months when the sun gets a little higher... Off to visit with son, DIL and the grand kids today.

OK, better get up and moving here. Would rather sit and digest the breakfast I finished a bit ago: 1/2 dozen eggs, 1/2 pound of bacon and 1/2 a loaf of toast ( <--- seems like anyway) mug of tea, glass of OJ too Hehehehe. Hope y'all get out and enjoy this great weather!

Wow, it is warmer here as well but we are having some winds today in North Boulder. Man good thing you have chickens to provide you with those eggs you eat. I can't tease too much, I eat two every morning. Yum!

Sadly no. They have it in a big tub and sell it by the pound. I will be out and about later today and I will stop in and ask them.

Late,

Bummer they are moving. It is not so far though.
Lol that would have been a big breakfast.

Have a great time at the party and yes enjoy that good weather.

We have gotten 18 eggs the last two days. I had a question regarding oyster shells, what brand is everyone using? I ask because I was getting some through the guy that was delivering my feed from Happy Hens.biz and our girls really liked it. It was actual oyster shells not that white looking crap from Manna. Well I had run out and was feeding the stuff from Manna and we wre getting less than 14 eggs a day. Once I ran out i started feeding their eggshell back to them and low and behold we started getting more eggs. Not sure if it is the eggshells or nicer weather.

Thank you! Those are my 2 options with my job. Hoping for STD since it's less of a pay cut & because I used a lot of FMLA right after the accident. HR paperwork takes forever! :)

I'm not sure what brand of oyster shell I'm using, it's whatever my local TSC has, but so far it's seems to be doing a good job. While some of the egg shapes have been a little wonky, the shells themselves have been nice & once they stared laying they haven't stopped. I know it's not very expensive, whatever the brand is.

We also buy the big brown bagged oyster shells, which I prefer over the white chunky junk from manna. I think big R had it for 13.99 for the...50#. I believe its fifty pounds. The stuff has lasted forever, so it's been a while since I bought the last bag. Cochins and Creams seem to use less, our golden buffs really needed a lot to keep their shells nice and thick, prob because they laid giant eggs everyday. I'm thinking the cinnamon queens will be the same.

Next time I'm at Big R I'll have to look for better oyster shell. We have the chunky white stuff and they don't like it at all. I used to grind their egg shells and give them back but haven't since we started showing the last house. A container of egg shells on the counter doesn't look too tidy.

It's warm out here now but windy which makes it feel much colder. This morning when I went out I couldn't even finish everyone because the wind instantly froze my fingers. I had to stop and come in to warm them up. They hurt so bad it was making me sick to my stomach! We had a lot of wind last night and it ripped the roofing off the coop. :/ Another project to find time for. I don't feel much like getting up there in this wind to do anything about it right now though!

I hung up the food in the coops, hoping to keep the mice out of them. I also took some spray foam stuff and plugged the holes I could find. There was a huge one in a corner that had previously been buried by shavings but was uncovered when I cleaned out the coop. It went all the way outside, I could feel the wind coming through it. I also shut the bottom portion of the window that had the broken screen I saw one jump through.

My other projects right now are setting up an outdoor camera I bought for myself so I can see the back yard/animal area when I'm out of town. And then I also need to build one of the new styles of automatic doors for our secondary coop. The one that is out there now had the limit switch on the bottom and it got clogged with shavings and the chickens pecked the wire and ripped it off. The new way we build them are much nicer and everything is hidden and away from shavings and chickens.

I found the flake stuff in the bag at Jax. I asked and they confirmed that the stuff in the bucket is the broken open bags of it. It is Pacific Pearl brand. They said that the Jax in Laffayette store should also carry it. It is 14.00 for the 50 pound bag.

On the same note.... I put some in the container in the coop and the girls went for it very well. I put about a cup of it in and only about an eighth of a cup is left right now.
