Just wanted to pipe in on the shipped chicks. I have had lots of chicks shipped from hatcheries and private breeding over the last 12 years from all over the country. I have at least 10-20 shipments a year. I have only had one shipment in all those years with all birds dead on arrival and that was in the summer and they died from being left in the heat on a dock. I sometimes have a chick or two dead upon arrival both most of the time all arrive fine. The day old chicks really do travel well and with the right size box and enough chicks to keep each other warm there should not be a problem.

Well, my mom surprised me by ordering a few hatching eggs for me since I've got my disability with work figured out (& fingers crossed it only lasts a month or two). Now, I kinda have to try hatching my little flock's eggs to fill up the incubator. I think my mom likes me better when I have a project to keep myself busy with. Kinda nervous about trying to hatch now!

Yep, chicks do travel well, and the hatcheries ship millions of chicks every year, so they know what they are doing! I have never had a problem getting local chicks from the feed store, they are great layers for my laying flock.

Hmmmm, Privet is a lot closer than Cackle, if you absolutely HAVE to go and pick them up! LOL

So pretty out today! Sun is shinning, and the snow is glistening!!! We have about five inches here, the last snowfall from last night is very fluffy, will be easy to shovel!

Yay on the hatching eggs!! What breed did your mom order for you? You can always sell them, or breed them and sell the chicks or hatching eggs.

Nice lacing on your SLW!

My eggs haven't hatched yet and I'm going bonkers. Plus all of the ayam cemani roos are having a crowing contest. For the last 3 days. Non stop.

If anyone wants any laying pullets let me know, it's time to rearrange my flocks a bit.

I have a roo that's very good with my ladies that has also had the crow reduction surgery. He is salmon favorelle x wellsummer x light brahma and carries the tufted, bearded, feather footed terracotta egg laying genes.

I have 2 ayam cemani roos with the crow reduction surgery, 2 ayam cemani roos without the surgery available.

For pullets I have ee's, barred rock, silver laced wyandottes, production red, rc leghorn, polish, haffies (ayam cemani x mottled orpington)

We got our 28 shipped from Meyer they were a day old and all arrived alive and fine. We only lost one the next day, all were healthy. We did have them vaccinated before shipping didn't want to take any chances,

Don't leave us hanging like that, what breeds and from where, when do they arrive? Yea mom!

Sun is out in North Boulder only got about an inch of snow. Projects today are getting my waterer finished, have one five gallon bucket done got to complete the other one. Then getting started on feeders, surgery is only 12 days away hope to have some meals cooked and frozen as well for recovery time.

Also came across a couple of good sites for homeopathic remedies for poultry today. I am continually trying to learn as much about natural chicken keeping practices and thought I would share.

Glad to hear I'll be coming home to nice weather. I won't be able to do any projects for outside. I gotta get the house ready for my mom to come into town tomorrow, then pack for 2 different trips. I'll come home from one on friday and leave on saturday for another one. lol

I love having cameras around the house. I've been able to check on all the animals while I've been gone. I also got to catch which dog has been getting into stuff in the laundry room and chewing on the gate. I might have to board her when no one will be there! Stupid dog.

No outdoor projects here for the time being, snow everywhere, no garage that has the space to do projects. So for now, I am looking through seed catalogs, and gardening magazines to try and figure out what will grow here at this altitude..... I ordered some Heirloom seeds off Ebay this year, will see if they grow!

Tempted to order some quail hatching eggs, 25+ for $5.00, but not sure I need to add quail babies at this time of year! I had planned on hatching out only purebreed chicks this year, but am rethinking that since I sold most of my mixed breed pullets during the fall, I may go ahead and hatch out some more of them to integrate into my laying flock, and build it back up again. I do enjoy selling their eggs so people can taste the difference from store bought factory eggs and farm fresh!

Hope your eggs hatch Double, what day are they at???

Nice having a camera so you can look at your critters even when you are not there!!!
