Colorado

I'm horrified at this weather. We have 3 inches of heavy wet snow laying on the ground out here in rural Elizabeth. I slipped and fell last time I went out to batten down the hatches. Cut my hands and knees. But I got towels pinned in front of the new chick coops to help keep out the snow ... poor little things were huddled in the far corners. And there's no braces to help keep the tarp up so I'm really really hoping I don't wake up tomorrow to crushed (and/or frozen) chicks.

Can't even get to the goat pen to see if my girl has had her kids. Or if the broody hen is keeping warm being by herself in the maternity ward.

It wasn't this bad during the winter.

SOMEBODY TURN ON THE SUN!!!

Nora,
Where and when is your convoy going?
I'd love that BCM rooster if only someone were coming this way...
Also anyone have runner ducklings or eggs? My hubby really wants them so I'd love to surprise him for father's day with some!

Crappy weather over here too, but luckily not snow, at least not yet. Isn't it supposed to warm up starting tomorrow? Ugh!

Random question......does anyone here in the Springs area sell milk (cow, goat don't really care) or know someone who does? I am not looking for raw, although I am not opposed. I just want farm fresh milk that I don't have to pay $50 a month for my "share" of the animal.

Hey Coloradans.... so it's the May snowstorm we all expect tonight... I live above 6500' and the snow is coming down. My two-month old chickens are in their coop outside-- but it is not entirely finished-- meaning the wind is likely making it drafty and they did not look happy when I left for work this afternoon. Should I bring them into the garage tonight? It's forecast to get down to 32F but the windchill down to 25. Your thoughts? The chicks are fully feathered-- meaning I don't SEE any fuzz, so I'm assuming their feathers will do the work they're designed to do but these poor peeps have never seen weather like this!

Ryan: I'm sure your chicks were fine. We have same age outside. Just covered the gated door with a towel to block the wind. Haven't checked on them yet but they looked fine last night, and it had been snowing all day.

BTW:
Another 2 inches came down during the night so we now have a total of 6 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground, with more falling even now.

This is unbelievable. My kid helped me get some snow off the new chicken coops and I'm sure that helped them to not cave in but I'm really worried about them and the goat pen and other chicken coops this morning. We didn't get this much heavy snow during the winter! All of my chickens and chicks and goats hate me because they think I did it. And I can't see my goats until I go outside and rattle the feed bucket or open the door where the hay is stored. Then they peak out of their dog-houses to see if I really have food.

So did my doe have kids? Won't know till I go out with feed.

The squash and strawberry plants I'd moved outside last week are now covered in 6-8 inches of snow. Quite sure I'm gonna need to start more squash plants, and buy more strawberries. Oh well.

As to whether I'm gonna have that garage sale this Saturday ... gonna have to think on that one. I can't get to the workshop where I'd stored the things I'd decided needed to be sold. It's snowed in! And will people from Denver even be able to drive out here? I understand they are getting mostly rain but starting in Parker .. they'll hit snow. Right? Six inches (plus) is NO WAY gonna completely melt by Saturday morning.

Should I postpone the garage sale? Just sell my chicks at Kiowa Country Corner's animal swap and maybe meet some of you guys there?

WOW !! Snow ? We had a very small covering on the grass but mostly just a lot of rain, and it's still raining the Chicken Run is flooded,
I haven't been out to check on them yet.

I don't want them upset with me because they can't come out. I don't know if they'll come out with the rain and the flooding. I guess I'll have to go out and see
