I have not posted in a while but that bob cat made me all

.

Really glad they are all locked up safe too.

Not much going on here except a bunch of molting hens.

For those who remember Itty Bitty the tiny cochin is still hanging with the pullets she raised for me. She is not so willing to wean them and even though they are almost 16 weeks old still calls them to food and does the mama thing. Funny seeing such a small chicken with the now huge Black Australorp pullets. They do mind their manners with mama which is nice.

Hanging in there for spring now that winter has hit.

Unfortunately you don't always know the weaknesses until after the fact. He's in the tree in front of the house. Same tree they treed a mountain lion in this summer.... Good thing I have 2 dogs to tag team.

I'm curious to know what kinds of watering devices those of you who don't heat your coop use?
I would rather not have any electrical components out there but currently am using a heated water bowl, (I took it from the dog).
I don't know if there are any solar things out there but am curious to hear suggestions. I'm on the Palmer Divide, about 7400' elevation, where the temp goes to below freezing each night regardless of day time temps.

I don't heat my coop but I also use a heated dog bowl. I needed something deep for my ducks. I have seen a solar powered bird bath I considered for my quail but I don't think it would get enough light. It might work for chickens.

the bird bath just runs a pump not a heater. It could help for a few degrees but it's still going to freeze.
They don't need water at night so just bring it inside.

Oh I didn't know that. I had a heated bird bath for the wild birds years back that was actually heated from the base. But it plugged in. I assumed the solar powered one would be about the same. I didn't look at the product details because I figured it wouldn't work well in the area anyway. I've been bringing the quail waters inside and putting them out in the morning. But I don't know what I'm going to do for them when we get those days that stay below freezing. A chicken waterer would work but all the heated ones I've seen are too tall.
