I don’t own the land I live on, so I’m pushing it with 8 already.

He was sold under the name Americauna, yes! (I also still have the receipt) I feel bad- He's only 10 weeks old & quite nice when he's not chasing around Abigail (a Blue Americauna that has stand offs with him). He "squaks" in excitement and is the first to greet me when I'm around, especially when bringing treats. What really gave him away, was that he picks on the gals, he pecked at my feet when I had slippers on once (probably the fuzz....) but I've been making a point to pick him up often, at first thinking "she" was establishing head hen status. He's nice to humans and has gotten used to the dogs.

I CAN take him back to the place I purchased him at as a chick, but I'm afraid he will become a dinner entrée and want to at least try to find him a home if I can.

Oh, he is cute. I'd be tempted to take him myself but right now I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do with my flock. My coop is getting closer to capacity so I have to make some choices on what to do. I know for sure I'll be selling pullets later this year because I now have 4 broodies on nests, plus the 15 chicks already running around. Broody hormones must be contagious.

You could try listing him on Craigslist. But there's also the risk of him being dinner.

I finally feel like spring has sprung and things are coming together. I got my free windows framed out on my raised beds, pulled most all weeds, and tilled in my compost. A few more hours of work and everything will be ready to plant! The new trees are still alive. Fingers crossed I can keep them that way. I've turned the heat off on the ducklings. I want to move them outside sooooo bad, but I do not trust them together with the adults yet, and the separation/integration pen is not predator proof in a way that I'd leave them in it all day while I'm at work. My cat finally caught a vole last night. He was overdue, it's probably been a month since he last caught one. He brought it to me alive while I was out pulling weeds and dropped it so then I had two dogs and a cat running around with a live vole going in and out from under the cars in the driveway alternately catching it and dropping it only to be picked up by one of the others.

I'm sure one of my ducklings is female. I'm still not convinced of the other, though they were supposedly sexed by the hatchery (not by a feed store employee), so we'll see. I'd feel so much better if I heard her quack like her sister, but even that one only quacks once in a great while and mostly makes her baby chatter.

So I met some neighbors the other day. The little kids were out on their bikes while I was working on my planting so I asked if they wanted to see the ducklings and chickens. Then the boy proceeded to tell me about the ducks they used to have. (I'd met the father in the past, but not the little kids). As the story goes, a bobcat got into the duck run/coop and ate a few ducks and killed the rest and then couldn't get back out of the run and was trapped in there. Apparently DOW had to come and take care of it. I always knew there were a few bobcats around, but I honestly thought they we only on the other side of the highway (only place we'd see them) and closer to the forest and not in my neighborhood. The coyotes (who were back again last night and almost every night last week) are enough of a problem!

Sounds like everyone is busy with gardening and baby/new animals! If any of y'all want to try your hand at incubating peafowl, let me know - I've got 17 eggs from this month and I'm not doing the hatching game this year. My three baby dragons from last year are officially yearlings (well, Mim won't be until tomorrow), and they are keeping me plenty busy. Mim has already started wandering off when his sire starts in on the mating calls. I figured this would happen since I'm pretty sure that's how I ended up with their sire. Do they make those baby harnesses/leashes in peacock sizes?

I've also got Mumbles (in the background of the picture below) thinking he's my boyfriend, so that's also been keeping me busy. He follows me around everywhere or brings me bits of grass or corn. I mean, considering my dating history, this is a pretty big step up, but I still think he should use that energy on the actual hens. Ronan (foreground and his sire) also thinks this.

Also, a year after being forced to quit my job with Parks and Wildlife, I got a job offer today. I'm excited to start getting a paycheck again so I can get my house built before the end of the year. I would really like to get it build before the end of the year. Fingers crossed!

@uzisuzuki I am jealous of your swingset frame! I never found one on CL in time and made my own AFrame in the end with 2"x4"s. So if no one wants to hatch your eggs, do you eat them? How do they compare (if you do)?

I managed to make things more secure since integration has been a challenge and the ducklings are spending their first full day outside today while I'm at work! Hopefully it goes well.

Price On Peacock Eggs?

$5 per egg. The male is an India Blue and the females are a Spalding Cameo Split Pied and a Spalding Purple Black Shoulder.

My dad built them out of a bunch of metal poles his friend had. It definitely has improved the stability of the little aviary! The wind would wreck it every time until we got them up.

I don't know what I'll do with them! Last year, I sold all the eggs I didn't have in the incubator, so I didn't have to think about it. I'm not big on eating eggs, so I'm not sure I'd be the best to compare. LOL I would like to hatch and sell the peachicks, but I'm not set up right now for any leftovers that don't get sold. Right now, I've got the adult male terrorizing everyone because he *really* would like to breed and the hens are pretty much done with it. He had my tiny yearling peacock stuffed into one of the chicken nesting boxes last night, and is now currently segregated to the outside of the pens for the safety of all the other birds.

I'm so glad they seem to get the crazy breeding hormones out of their system pretty early on. I don't know if I could handle it from March to August straight through.
