Colorado

so one week into new babies tomorrow- lost our surprise exotic extra chick for no reason I can tell, but the rest are peeping around like crazy. Better than I had feared from reading about shipped chicks. Our bird dog absolutely adores the garage right now, go figure!

Sometimes despite our best efforts, we lose a chick :hugs. Hopefully the others are healthy and strong. It's warm these days so you should be able to move them outside very soon! Enjoy.

Went down to NM on Friday to pick up my bucklings. When she was doing a final check on one of the ones I reserved she found a 3rd nipple! Of course she wouldn't sell it for breeding and had to castrate (not that I'd want it at that point). She didn't have any other bucklings available. She felt really bad about me making the 6 hour trip (plus I also transported 3 does for her from Kiowa) so she offered to sell me one she was going to retain. He is a handsome little boy with a bunch of moonspots. One downside is now my 2 boys are 1/2 brothers. I'll probably have to get a 3rd buck later depending on how many does I retain from them. Oh well, not like getting more goats is so terrible.

I think it was meant to be though. The other buckling I reserved was born on St Patrick's Day. The one she was going to keep was born on Valentine's Day. How cool is that? The one she was going to keep is already registered with the name Valentino so I decided to name the other Patrizio (Italian for Patrick). Patrizio is the dark grey/brown with one patches and Valentino is the gold and black with moonspots.

Here's Patrizio again just because I think this picture is adorable.

Oh and I saw the ducklings go outside on their own this morning. I know they've been out before because I found one stuck under the barn, but this was the first time I've seen them go out the door without me herding them. They're only 8 weeks old but they are huge.
