Greetings all, I finally gave in and set my first eggs of the season yesterday. My birds have started laying well, and the daylight hours are hopefully long enough for the boys to be properly fertilizing the eggs. Last year I felt like I missed setting a lot of the eggs the Naked Neck girls were laying, and wound up hatching only one, which was a male I planned on keeping until he turned out to be a giant compared to the two girls I would have put him over. His father is a pretty large Cochin and he inherited his size and then some, so he went to live with another keeper who has bigger hens. Hoping to hatch more this year. Hope you are all doing well and enjoying this lovely weather!

So much for the nice weather, snow potentially Friday and next week! Really puts the pressure on me to finish building the coop!! My current old girls aren't laying as much these days, however they did start a couple weeks ago. Always a nice surprise after their molt and winter break.

At least that confirms spring is coming. Well, that and all the snow!

I have birds going to new homes tomorrow and around 15 cockerels slated for freezer camp come sunday so I hope the weather plays nice

Hey all fellow Colorado people.
I got about 8 chickens in February and are closely monitoring them. I believe at this point I have all pullets but are preparing for the fact that I may get a roo or two. Was just seeing if there is anyone nearby that wants a rooster or has use for one (as taking it out and hacking it isn’t something I want to do) And if so if they would be willing to trade me a hen of theirs. Again, no Cockrels yet but am just getting prepared in case one of them ends up being one.

Jumping states here for a PSA. Over in the "Needs Re-homing" thread, a fellow BYC'er in Denver has 3 non-laying hens to be re-homed before the family moves to N.M. Obviously, these are NOT intended for the stew pot! Hope one of ya'll can find room in your coop for these deserving girls

Hello everyone! The flock is healthy and pest-free, they've been allowed to roam our backyard for the last 3 years but are also used to a smaller run. I will also be adding layers to my 're-home' list when we get closer to the closing date on our Denver home so please help me find a home for these lovely ladies! Maybe you want a whole flock that already knows each other- that could be arranged!
