Anyone else working in gardens today? It is soooooooooo beautiful today. I am planting potatoes, I have ten lbs.

Ugh it is a lot of work, but it is great to be outside!

I don't care if it is a buff duck or a buff chicken, those things have such an ATTITUDE! What is it about coming from Orpington that makes them so obnoxious? Lana, my buff duck is such a bossy loud mouth! (but she is cute and she cracks me up)

Husband and kids are out planting fruit trees, grape bushes and lilac bushes. It is so pretty out. I slipped on the snow and mud and hurt my bad knee so I think I'll take it easy for the rest of the day.
Oh Wifezilla, I just can't wait for my duckies to hatch!

My buff orps are definitely bossy, unfortunately I think one of them is a roo at this point, so that might explain some of it. I think her comb tripled in size in about 24 hours. If she ends up a he, I'll give him to anyone that wants him. 1 month old today about... so might be a little premature to pick out the roosters but the signs aren't looking good.

My BO chicks in the brooder are supposed to be three girls and a roo. You can DEFINITELY tell which one is the roo. He just stands differently, his comb is bigger and he's probably the least skittish of all the chicks in the brooder even though I have about 10 RIR roo babies and some Cornish roos in there along with my EE pullets and the RIR girls.

I know there are a couple places in Ft Collins that have chicks. One of them has them year round. One of the posts on either this thread or the other Colorado thread has the name of the place.

I have 1 year old Turken girl, Sweets, and 2 more in the 8 week olds brooder a black one and a buff one. Sweets is really a good girl, somewhat of a beggar/piglet but good.

I have some seedling transplanting to do, but I think I will hold off on taking anything outside until it's bigger. And till It's warmer out.

Actually I had a terrible airline nightmare of a trip last Friday, Saturday, almost into Snday so I am still shaking off some resentlment and jetlag, so being outside in the garden would be a good thing, ya know? Little sun to shake off the GRRRRR feeling.
I already cleaned and refreshed the chickens coops. I still have the bunny hutch to do and the quail pens (empty as of yet) to work on.

I don't know who is augmenting their flocks here, but our feed store (Colorado Agri-feed) is getting some interesting birds in this week. They are due a shipment of "Ameraucanas" (we'll see what that means) today, and "production reds", etc. later in the week. I can't remember the other breeds, but if anyone in/near the Springs is looking, they're very nice there. I like them. We're still hunting for a Maran. Any local breeders or other leads?

Did they have ducks? Looks like one of the 2 ducklings I hatched out isn't going to make it. I need a brooder buddy for the other duck.
