Hey you! If I'm not mistaken, you're the super sweet lady who helped me restart my flock this past summer after a run-in with the coyotes, no? Pretty sure you are because of the name on here...hehe greenegz.
Sorry I haven't posted updated shots of the flock. I still have all three of them! The easter-egger type, she was named Rosamond, is the dominant hen-- ok, I lie...dominant creature on the property!!!! She's so dang bossy but dang is she pretty!!!! She even crows like a roo-- no kidding. However, she's the only one to lay eggs yet. She started soon after I got her from you, which you predicted she would. She's a faithful layer for sure. And her eggs aren't too small, either. They are a lovely pink color. Honestly, i love this chicken! She rocks. She even dominates my roo. lol
The two orp hens are still not laying... talk about a long wait. But they're doing well. Everyone has grown considerably and the orp hens have lovely color. I did have a third orp hen but while in the yard after a storm, she was maybe ten feet from me and this very brave coyote ran right up to me and grabbed her... i even had my daughter with me and she was freaked out to the max!!!! Sadly, I was out in the yard building a safe run for them when it happen... insane.
You'll be glad to know, however, the run is done, is enormous and Rosamond, Gwen, Cora and Earl are all very happy in their run. I still close the coop every night but they have hundreds of sq ft in which to run. The center of the run is the garden and will be blocked off from access as we get closer to Spring. I have essentially made a ring of protective-bug-eating chickens around the garden. LOL
If you don't get takers for the silkies, let me know. I haven't decided whether or not to add any "special" (as in not big egg producers) chickens to my flock yet-- though I'd LOVE to see a silkie hatch out a clutch of eggs.
Next time to turn onto hill top give us a wave!!!! We put up a privacy fence and all, but at the end of the fence is the chicken coop and run. You might even see Rosamond kicking some rear to maintain her position in the flock! LOL
