I'm going to ca on jan 4th and will be there for about 5 days then returning here to rangely. I will be in the lemoore/hanford area. Don't know if thats anywhere near where your puppy is.

Thank you for the fantastic offer! You guys are all great - I laughed as I read thru the threads when I got home. PuppyTrain!!
Lemoore is almost 200 miles from her, and she would really like her to go to her new home by Christmas. So I'd better keep looking. I posted over on the California threads also, just in case someone was heading this way. I haven't made a firm commitment yet, and I'm still waiting to hear back from a local breeder of Aussies.

So I'm trying not to fall in love with this little gal:

Has anyone here fed their chooks pineapple? King Soopers has them for a buck each and they're delicious-- anyway, I'm giving my chooks a rind to peck at-- they've not left the dang coop in over a week! It won't be an every day treat so I figure they're safe. People seem divided on the subject on the general BYC forums.

Hey peeps,

I'm planning for the spring and am pinging the forum as I'm looking to expand my flock. I'm looking for wyandottes. I'd like silver laced but I'm interested in red blue laced and Colombians as well. Anyone know where I can get them locally? I'm looking to add several hens and a roo.

Let me know! And if I can't get them locally, I'm willing to order and in that case, I'm looking for those to help order with to cut on shipping cost.

Hey Colorado peeps - since ya'll are my go to for all important chicken matters.....what's your favorite solution for breaking a broody?

No room for chicks now - too cold anyways. She's at the bottom of the pecking order, being broody all the time doesn't help. At least she's keeping the eggs from freezing!

Is it too cold for the dog crate in the run? Usually I put her in our dog run for a few days, but there isn't any shelter from this weather, which doesn't sound like it's getting any better in the next few days. Ideas? Anyone need a broody hen? She's really good at it!

The prevailing practice to break a broody is to put her in a wire cage. Some even hang the cages on chains from the ceiling so that when she moves, there is also slight movement to the cage.
When they go broody, you will notice how they drop their belly feathers. The idea is to put them on wire so that the air reaches their belly. The cool air on their belly should break them of being broody.
