I used skillet lids and crockpot lids from the ARC for windows in mine! As funny as it sounds they work really well. Get the biggest ones that will work and if you need help with attaching them I can help ya! You can see better pics on my profile of the windows

Do those lids leak? That is my main concern with putting in a window... I want it dry in that coop!

My house smells like a fire pit...I hada miserable night last night. I won'tbe going into UNC today...DANG, I hope I don't miss the SEM work today.
hmm.png

mine does too, and i have ash around the house/yard again.

I have a friend that lives by the drive in theater in ft collins and she can't see the house across the street. Her kids are taking refuge at my place while she's at work.

We had a faint odor of fire last evening, but a spectacular red sunset.

For window covering we used old repurposed plexyglass.

Got bird netting over the growout pens yesterday afternoon. I probably won't do any more chicken building projects this week, too many honey-do items.

Here's a photo from this norning at 5:20AM

I am aghast as I had hoped that poultry would be the one place of respite in a world that has gone to hell. Personally, I'm scared to death for my own job and know many people that are struggling. I suspect that the rise in having chickens is due to the economy.

With that said, I was disappointed today when I went to Larry's Poultry, located outside of Denver.

I called for clarification because surely this was a hack. Nope, he truly feels that Republicans don't care about poor people. He told me that Obama wasn't allowed to get anything passed because the Republicans fillibustered it. I corrected him and told them that if that was the case, Obamacare wouldn't have passed. It did. Then he told me he didn't have time to discuss this subject.

Can't we all agree to love chickens here and leave the politics out of it? I mean, really? Most of us, regardless of political stripe... can see the dangers of any government who wants to limit the ability to keep chickens. Town that are controlled by both Dems and Pubs don't allow chickens in their town due to ignorance. I suspect we can all agree on the humane treatment of poultry, regardless of who makes the law. I just don't understand why everything has to have politics in it right now. I mean, really?

I will never buy from a man who believes that I want a dictator nor a man so ignorant as to rewrite the last 10 years of history.

Jenelle brought over a gallon of white paint this evening... 3/4 of a can hour and a half later here are the results.

Looks good, I'm glad that was enough paint :)

I LOVE this idea! It looks like a little nautical coop. How are they attached? Did you use caulk around the windows to seal them? Mo, another idea I just thought of is old front-loading washer or dryer doors. I'm sure you could find them at a salvage yard (do we have these around here?) or even ask at a appliance repair company if they have any they are tossing. Plexiglass is pretty inexpensive at Michael's if you want to go that route.

I have a question for you folks. I'm working on building the run and I want to bury the hardware cloth to keep out burrowing predators. I dug a trench about 6" deep around the perimeter for it. The ground is hard as a rock so I don't know if I can go much deeper with just a shovel. Is that deep enough? We have a 6' fence around our yard and I haven't seen anything in our neighborhood, but we do have coyotes in the adjacent pasture space a few blocks over. They get real fat on the wild rabbits running around this time of year. I was planning on cementing it in since we still have to cement the posts as well - is that a good idea? My girls need to get in this dang run so we can go camping on weekends, so I'm hoping to get it done soon.

Edit: Also does anyone know where to get granular SweetPDZ around here? I've only ever seen it at the Big R and they only have it in powdered.

Maybe he's having a bad time? He didn't go into any detail on the websie.

I do my best to keep politics and religion out of my poultry discussions here on BYC

Sadly, I have till next Saturday to rehome my beautiful EE rooster, Petruchio. Stupid neighbors--they all told me they didn't mind and that it was lovely having him near.

He was hatched November 18 from Farmer John's eggs. He is gorgeous, gentle with the ladies, keeps 23 hens fertilized all by himself and is not at all aggressive.

Can anyone take him?

This is kind of a lousy pic. He's actually prettier than this. He has the slate legs, hard to see in these pics.
