Thank you.

That girl on the left looks like she's ready for some football. Hut hut hike!

Thanks for the tips on how to bury the hardware cloth around the run. We worked on it this weekend and the underground u-shape is probably what we will end up doing. Working out in the hot sun all weekend was NOT a good time and we didn't even get the dang thing finished. The end is in sight though. Half of the structure is up, the hardware cloth is stapled on, just have to bury it, concrete the posts in, dig one more trench for one side, frame and hang a screen door to let us into the run, um...

Hey all, I signed up for this forum a few months ago, but just wanted to say hi and I am in Parker. This is my first year of keeping chickens, it's kind of been rough but I see smooth sailing ahead now. I started with 2 chicks.....my boxer got one, so being defiant I went and got 4 more chicks. I gave them more protection but one day my boxer got into the coop and now I am left with 2 chickens. :( any how....the boxer ran away a couple of weeks ago and never found him.... :( so I think the chickens will be safer without him around..... Did anyone hear about the ruling about keeping chickens in Douglas County? I can't seem to find any information. Thanks....

Here is an old picture the brown one is gone but my beautiful Buff is still here named Sunny by my kids. She survived two attacks, she is a trooper.

I made a couple of the first ones I used but couldn't get them to stay on right. The last saddles I bought. I'll pm you.

Sometimes I just feel like such a dunce. How often have I heard that chickens will continue to peck at each other but it still didn't connect as to why my girls were barebacked. When I was in the military, we'd give out rocks to those people who just didn't think right. In this case, I'd get a boulder. :)
Don't feel too bad, the only reason i knew it was pecking for my girls is because I saw it and my rooster hadn't started getting amorous yet.

Who all went to the sawp??

I wanted to make a drive down just to see, but my family (wife) had other plans for me this weekend.
The family and I stopped by for a quick look. We couldn't buy anything because we were going to be away from home for the rest of the day. I'll definitely be checking out the next one.

I live on the eastern edge of Parker in Elbert County, and just about everyone in my neighborhood has roosters (but me!). I prefer sitting outside with my pullets listening to the roosters crow in the distance. :) It's great out here! Lots of space...everyone seems to have at least a few acres, several horses, sheep, alpaca, etc. Houses aren't terribly expensive. I got a great deal on mine. And I love Parker and Elizabeth, great towns. Good luck with your planning and home search!

I live in Parker too. Anyone who want's chickens and live in Douglas County should double check the laws. I am not quite sure how it works, since Parker says we can have hens in a hazy way, but Douglas County says you have to have 2+ acres of land....lol I also live in an HOA, but they do not mention poultry, just animals and they have a 5 pet limit. Since I consider my hens as pets I live in a grey area of the law....lol

I'm interested in seeing pics of your hail netting. We just put in raised beds this year and need a permanent hail cover. Thanks. For anyone who remembers, we got an Ameraucana "pullet" from Colorado Agri Feed in March that turned out to be a roo. We found a good home for him out near Rush with 18 hens, but now are looking to replace him with a couple of hens around 12-14 weeks old. Gardendufus, we would be very interested in your chicken sitting sometimes. Send me an email and perhaps we can trade something of value to you for chicken sitting and avoid money. Our girls are very easy. I expect them to lay around August first at about 20 weeks...that is what I heard is the average time. We have a large pvc chicken waterer with nipples for our girls and have been keeping it cool and full with ice cubes from the ice maker in the fridge. They weathered the hail, wind and heat pretty well. We have two evergreens in their run whch they go under in the heat. This year has surely given us the gamut of weather conditions to adapt to!!
