I taught mine to go on my deck... I really should not have done that since I have a trex deck.

I got a list of resources at that class and on it is a Eric Fulenwider. He locally produces feed and is president of CPA if you want to try his stuff. (720)629-2939

My son Ethan was there! He was in his class. I actually brought my little RIR chick with me when i picked my son up from that party because we had just picked her up from boomgars. What a small world! You live extremely close to me. I'm a block away from the school he attended.

I had no idea your neighborhood was a part of an HOA. I think i'd be able to help you walk and get some signatures after the 17th. Then I'd only have my kids with my instead of mine +daycare kids.

That's crazy. I remember Ethan, poor guy didn't like pizza or any of the lunch meat that I had in the house. I remember you bringing in your new chick. The kids loved it.

I have 14 birds and built my coop out of a 4X8 shipping crate I bought on Craig's list for $70. I took the roof and 2 sides off and flipped them over and 180 degrees to make a 8X8 with 3 walls. I then built the front wall with a door in the middle and a pitched roof. Lastly added two 1 foot by 6 foot windows, siding, and 4 nesting boxes. Just an idea!

Well, I just sold my Hamburg. She is going to a farm where they are hoping she makes some pretty babies with their roo. :). Anyone else out there ever get a wild hair and just want to change things around? My end goal is to get all my perminent hens into the same coop, so five max. Then I was going to use the other coop either for meaties or for hatched chicks that I am selling.

I still want to make one more change in the lineup before I am complete; I want to sell my light brahma and get a highly broody breed pullet to replace her. I can't decide if I am just going to keep one of the D'Anver chicks that I hatch or try and get a pol broody breed from a local breeder. I keep waffling on that one. Keeping a chick would be easiest and no quarantine required, but I don't know if they will go that broody being from hatchery stock (Gabbard farms) or how many eggs they will be able to cover seeing as they are really small (hens=22oz). And if I go to a breeder, what breed? I am leaning towards a bantam cochin but I don't know if they will have enough pep to stand up for themselves with my big girls. :/ Decisions, decisions...

i like changing this up, but i mainly want to do that by adding more chickens! lol. I'm constantly having to talk myself out of getting a few more.

I would love to just keep adding but we are running out of people to give the eggs to and my DH is getting tired of helping me care for them. I guess he has more of an issue with them than I thought originally and basically tolerates them because they make me happy. But he made it clear; no more chicks in the house (sick birds are ok if they need extra care), and I have full decision making power with who stays, who goes, and so forth but I promised no more than two broody breed hens at once and the three layers we have left stay until nature takes them away.

DH doesn't help me care for them at all or care how many we have. I just use him for heavy lifting when needed (coop/run moving when we got it and later when doing a big clean). If i want more and have room for them I'll buy them.
