Colorado

Yay there are some of us here.

I got two hatchery cuckoos this spring, but both turned out to be roos. I lost one to dogs (my own) and the other has turned out to be a great roo! He's getting huge and is very protective of his girls, yet very tolerant of me.

Anyway, I really want to get into the breed. Any variety, but I'm leaning more toward non-black copper since everyone is working on those. I do like the cuckoo's - are there cuckoos with leg feathering yet? I'm not set up to be able to hatch just yet. Maybe next spring, but I don't want to wait that long to get some Marans pullets or hens. Let me know if any of you are willing to sell started birds or hatched chicks.

Thanks

I'll post a pic of my cuckoo roo later tonight after I get home.

ETA - thanks for the link.

Is everybody's barnyard as "soppy" as ours on the West Side?

Happy 4th!

I have a black copper marans rooster (7 mos old) that I need to find a good home for. He's gorgeous and a pretty easy guy to have around.

He is from well-planned, excellent lines with nice, dark eggs. He has more copper on his breast than the standard calls for, though, as well as some barring.

Hello from the westen slope!!!

And Chicksahoy...
we're pretty much neighbors I'm over in Montrose county... Olathe to be exact! And we get our hay over by Hotchkiss. So happy to hear from someone so close!

I'm happy to hear about Marans being pretty close! My chickies are only 5 weeks old but I'm already hoping I get one that will go broody so I can hatch some maran eggs. Don't really want to build a bater.

Hahaha! Thank you, I am quite taken with him. I think he'd be a good breeder for someone who could use more copper on their birds.

He is actually quite a big booby in personality. The breeder I got the eggs from says her BC roos tend to be gentle giants.

Well, it sure is in my neck of the woods...!

By the way, if anybody is interested in grouping together for purchasing organic chicken feed, please let me know. There are a couple things already in the works and some more possibilities on down the road if enough people are interested...
