Just kidding...so glad there is interest in organic offerings. The info about the Hotchkiss/Delta mill feed was posted a few days ago. There is a person who has been distributing feed from the Western Slope to the Front Range (she lives in Lyons). It is a quality cracked whole grain feed. It does include soy, but the Lyons gal has offered to sell it w/o soy to those that would like. The cost is .60 lb/with soy, we aren't sure the cost w/o soy yet. It is on a "bring your own container" basis. Some folks in the Denver area are trying to group together to help each other transport it down from Lyons.
If you want contact info, please email me. The folks involved mostly aren't BYCers.
What we were just discussing is that I don't know the name of the mill that grinds the feed and rootball is interested in maybe working with them personally, but they do require a large custom order directly from the mill.

I'd be interested for sure, depending on the cost directly from the mill, which would have to be less than the .60 per lb thru the Lyons distributor, eh?
Ah I see.....well I dont care, Id rather chuck in with her, but it is easier for me to just pick it up from Delta rather than Lyons, or get her to drop some off.
I live less than an hour from delta but Lyons is 3.5 hours. I have trucks trailers containers etc. I could also probably get some extra. There is a farm up the road who pay $40 per 50# bag shipped in from oregon and Carbondale allow 5 chickens per home, its silly with back yard chickens, and tons of people would go ape for organic feed.
But just so I understand, the current offer is .60 a pound picked up in Lyons but milled in Delta?
If the distrubuter mentioned above honors the .60/lb price and I can buy 100lbs, I'm in. I guess the 2 ton minimum from the silo is not surprising, I guess if the .60 per pound is based on that order, I'll never see it...
I think I'll just pick up a bag from here and give it a shot, this is getting pretty complicated. http://www.denverurbanhomesteading.com/new_page_1.htm That's .40 cents per pound more, but I don't have a grain silo and it's about a mile from here..
I also live on the hinterside, so maybe we could work together for transport? I will be picking up some of the feed in Lyons when I'm over that way in a few weeks. Be happy to bring some for you to try.
