Colorado

I just had to send out emails and facebook messages telling folks we won't be attending the Colorado Colonial encampment this year due to my sweeties health issues. I just can't go camping without her for that long in her current condition. We have been doing Colonial/American Revolution reenacting together for over 20 years, and have been at this event since it's beginning. I am totally bummed.

Bummer, Wendell, but no point going away to worry, huh?

My RIR left me a perfectly normal egg in the nest box today (whew!) so for now, I'm going with something spooked them overnight.

Had a visitor to the gate of the enclosure tonight - first tarantula we've seen here in a few years. Attempting to attach a pic of it, and one of my two big girls.

Kind of hard to see, it's the dark brown thing with legs about in the center of the walkway to the gate. Was headed for imminent death, Red was licking her chops, so we scooped it up and moved it to the other side of the vegetable beds beyond the enclosure, hoping he continued on his way. I am assuming it's fall migration time for them, and will try to watch my step the next several days.

What a bad chicken mommy, saving that tarantula. The girls would have loved him. And just today I was wondering if I wandered around could I find some garter snakes to throw in the pen with MY girls and earn their everlasting gratitude.

Wendell, I too sympathize that you can't go to the reenactment. I know that you wouldn't enjoy it alone, would only spend the time torn about wanting to be with Beth. I know that the real problem is that you wish things were such that you could both be there. My thoughts and prayers.

Is Beth out of Intensive care?

What a bummer, Wendell. So sorry you can't attend, but you can take solace in the fact that you're doing the right thing. Best to concentrate on getting Beth better so you can go next year. Sending prayers and good vibes for both of you.

Tarantula, Pozees!? Ewwww, that'd freak me out!! I don't do well with bugs to begin with but something that big would send me into a tizzy...I'd have definitely let the girls have that one, LOL.

We went to the Sustainable Living Fair here in FC yesterday, and really enjoyed it! I didn't realize they did so much. Went to a talk about raising chickens here that was really interesting. Definitely plan to go for the whole weekend next year; there were lots of events and demos and such that I'd like to take part in.

Beth is out of the CCU (Critical Care unit) AND out of CVU (Cardio Vascular Unit) and is now in room 1110, on the 11th floor. Don't know how long she will be there. We are still waiting to see if they got all the bacteria out, if the pleuarl cavity is drained out, if the pleural fluid has stopped collecting, if her blood pressure will stay up on its own, and if the blood clots in her lungs are breaking up. After that, she will get to start up some sort of chemo again.....

A little off the chicken topic (unless of course you suggest KFC) ... My wife and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary . Seems like we always end up at the same old restaurants time and time again. Any suggestions for a great place to eat in the CS area? Wendell, Sharon, Jenelle? Anyone?

Thanks,

Mo & Tami

It's been so long since Beth and I went out I don't know where to send you. Beth likes 3 Margeritas and Macaroni grill.

LOL, I'm the last one to ask about eating out. My favorites tend to be places like the North End Diner, Nana's in Falcon and the Train (I love old style diners). Texas Roadhouse for steak and I think about going to the Red Lobster, but never go. None of them the romantic, anniversary types. If you like seafood, I understand there's a nice (but very expensive) place on S. 8th called Josephs.

Just a quick internet search brought up this link which might be of some use for ideas: http://www.menuism.com/cities/us/co/colorado-springs/n/downtown-colorado-springs
