Also I think the price wasn't too bad. I think I paid 200 dollars to cover our whole entire back yard, and then when the garden is done I rolled it up in trash bags and stored it in our attic.
We attached the hail net with metal hooks that we screwed into the fence and deck. Then I rolled the hail netting and hooked it over the screw when I got the desired tension.
about how much area did you cover for that price, if I may ask?

Auntie- There are plenty of people on this thread that freezer camp their birds and raise meaties.
You are not alone.

Wsmith- oh where is that video of the plucking fun? I am glad you and Beth had a nice anniversary! A small metal garbage can works pretty well for scalding turkeys with a pulley system over it. We had some BBBs a couple of years ago and would not have been able to deal with the weight of them without a pulley! I still have one of them for this Thanksgiving's dinner and his name was/is "Grateful Dead". The others were "Tom" and "Chris".
Yeah, I know, this family is wacky!

The video was too large to upload, and I don't have a good video editing program.

The couple of weeks before the first processing, the roosters in the rooster pen started getting names too...Kung Pao, sechuan, nugget, the Colonel, etc.

I had a pet ewe when I was little. I was very attached to her. Dad "sent her to another farm". It wasn't until a couple years later that I found out we had eaten her, along with the rest. It was then i had to learn that at least on a farm, some animals could be pets, and other couldn't. A dog or a cat, for me growing up, could be a pet IF they did their job. Otherwise they would go away.

We had originally planned on keeping both turkeys but then the jenny committed suicide, and the jake tried to. At least my daughter's dog stopped when I yelled at her. The turkey only lost a few tail feathers.

That's quite a lot of kids out with something or other.
I'll fess up on the video request....., when we first used our plucker, by the end of the first bird, I had a naked bird and a kid that looked like he had been tarred and feathered and I was laughing so hard, I was having trouble standing, and I thought, if only we had taped it, we could have won some money with that one! It was absolutely hysterical!

That would have been funny!

has your hail netting ever had to carry snow? how much has it handled. our bird netting might have been ok if it hadnt been 5 inches of heavy, wet, sticky snow.

Thanks, I bought the hail net at the American Clayworks, located in Denver.

http://www.americanclayworks.net/products.html

I can find the invoice and give you the phone number, they shipped in one day. :)

I bought the hail net last summer, and have used for 2 6 month periods of time and it is indestructible (like fishing line)
Hope this helps! We love the stuff

I am having a hard time locating the product - is it just called hail netting or did they have another name for it? What category was it in?

Sorry, feeling like a dolt about now.
