Merry Christmas everyone!! We got snow all day yesterday and sunshine today.....got to a whopping 40 degrees in the hen house. We have about 6 inches on the ground and the chickens are not too sure of this strange white stuff. We have an open Hay Barn about 30 feet from the hen house, when I let the girls out this afternoon some of them dared to venture to it. They did a fly-hop-fly-hop all the way there and back....pretty funny stuff.

I know this is a bit off topic but I am wondering if anyone here breeds dachshunds or knows of a good breeder? I am looking for a smooth coated dachshund of any size ( mini,tweenie or standard) preferably black and tan or red. Thanks for any help.

I can't believe how great the weather has been, and now that it's time to go pick up our puppy the roads are icy. We've been here exactly a year, and there is no way I'm driving on even a little ice. How long does it take to get used to driving on snow/ice? I'm just really lucky my in-laws live right here and are going to take me. It doesn't help that I grew up in the hottest city in Arizona, and hate the cold.

Some people never get used to it, Ashley, and my philosophy as I've gotten older is, if it isn't a life-critical trip and you are afraid to drive, you wait. I grew up in Upstate NY where you have to drive in ice, snow, sleet, slush in varying stages of rigidity, you name it If you are driving in less than ideal conditions, you go slowly, and leave ten times as much room for stopping as you think you need. Yes, other drivers will become impatient, and sometimes create a hazard by passing you, but you can't let them push you into driving faster than you think is safe.

Have good tires and front wheel drive, and if you have 4 wheel drive don't make the mistake of believing it means you have 4 wheel stop. It's good for getting unstuck, but doesn't help you stop any faster.

This made off with at least 1 of our ducks who didn't want to go back in their house over night...there are no signs of the other 3 (maybe they have a good hiding spot I don't know about). I am thinking fox...input? Its about twice as big as a house cat.

I was born and raised in Michigan where its cold and snowy 6+ months a year...we grow up driving on snow and ice and while I still hate the cold I actually find it fun to slide around a little as long as we are safe. I have been here almost 2 years and I'm sometimes Amazed how ppl who have grown up here don't know how to drive in the snow lol...where we are if you get more than 8 inches your 'snowed in' and roads close. Lol.

I don't personally know any. And was going to suggest looking at the dachshund club of Americas breeder page.... http://www.dachshund-dca.org/kennelads.html I glanced and there are not any listed in CO but maybe you could find one in a neighboring state. Good luck!

Brrrr. The girls never left the coop yesterday and its not looking good for today. We got an egg already this morning. That makes six in a row. This one was laid in a different box and earlier in the day so.... maybe someone is starting to lay.

Definately canine. Fox, coyote or dog. How long was the track from top to bottom? Coyote and fox track are nearly identical, except for the size. There are differences though.
