Colorado

Little update, still we are getting 2 eggs a day where we were getting 3, so in MY mind the traumatized girl has not layed an egg since the 24. I hope she settles down and mellows out soon. lots of treats :)

Okay, I am not trying to freak you out, but just in case the rough treatment broke an egg inside your girl, you may want to be ready to treat the infection. This is a just in case info alert..........

Hawks.., the hawks that have tried to nab a chicken in my run have never been successful. I have watched a couple of hawks try to get the girls, but they have always ducked behind the cover of the trees and played ring a round the rosy with them. So maybe just building some small covers will give them a chance to tire the hawk out.

I think there are a handful or so of us working toward having eggs, chicks, juveniles, and perhaps other things we would like to sell, albeit on a small scale. As many of us learned in the last couple of years, it can be difficult to locate local sources, and the general population does an online search before they do anything else. I am thinking about setting up a website for us all, called either coloradochickens.com or cochickens.com, with a shopping cart and search engine optimization. If I can get even a few local (or national) businesses to advertise associated products, it is possible the net cost would be zero - right now the setup of these two sites is not that expensive anyway, so I would pay for the setup and invite any of you who wish to participate in design, set up your own pages with your own pictures and contact information, links to your own websites or facebook pages, whatever you want to do. The package I am looking at is available through godaddy and I am not exactly a web wiz so to me, the more push button a package is, the better :) I invite your opinions.

Sounds good. The effort to create a database or directory has proven fruitless, as only a couple wanted to give me their info.
Count me in.
have something like services offered, such as breeders, breed availablem eggs for eating, eggs for hatching, chicks, adult birds, etc.

Good suggestions, thanks! I reserved the two domain names and will set it up so whichever is typed in points to the website. I will get to work this weekend creating the site. If anyone else here is more of a wiz than me I welcome assistance in setup.

Wendell, I really need to get a visit to your place nailed down - work has been kind of turbulent the last several weeks, between all the break-ins and new boss (and new boss not coming back to work today as expected), end of year activities, and then personal stuff like my newly 21-year-old deciding he wants to come home for the weekend :) You have had your own things too (how did the MRI go?)

One day next week or two I need to get there.

Are you/is anyone planning a trip to the Stock Show on the 21st? Apparently that is the day of the Poultry Show, believe Shylee will be there, and I'm hoping to get there for the day. We shall see how the new year opens I guess.

It's supposed to be 8 degrees tonight with snow. I wrapped the outside of the coop with a blanket (plenty of ventilation) also have on the lamp, added extra bedding and was going to put Vaseline on combs, can't fint it in this house anywhere. There are 4 girls, I am worried they will be too cold, should I bring them in? My hubby will NoT love this. Also, I'm now very worried about my girl who was treated so rough, she seems fine, but oh, wow. Se could have an egg stuck? How would I know? She isn't acting sick, very plucky!!!

I used godaddy/website tonight for 3 years on my business website. If you need help I can help you. It's been a year since I put mine on ice, but I had music, animation, pictures, a sign in book, a shopping cart, coupons etc...I'm pretty good at it, or was :)

They should be more than fine with what you have done to keep them warm. If she is acting normal, then she is okay. It was a "just in case" she starts acting sick, heads up for a broken egg It has been known to happen although I have never dealt with that particular problem.
