Hey COChix and Maggie,

Would you ever consider a trade for some honey? I live around Conifer, and I make Salted Caramels and Chocolate Truffles. Not that many are looking for candy.

I need to find something to trade. I LOVE salted caramels and truffles!
 
Oh and Caramel Sauce! That's the BOMB on my gluten free banana pancakes! I make the caramel sauce sometimes, but my family sucks it down so quickly that it's gone before my second batch of pancakes! It is great in coffee or hot chocolate and on almost any cookie or cake or pancake.

That would be something I could post for trade. Of course, I'll need until mid-July to get it made and bottled. Anyway ... I can't wait for fall!
 
Does anyone here take feed bags and make them into grocery bags? If so I would be willing to save some for the cause. I don't sew, so figured I would ask.
 
I know everyone is trying to get rid of roosters, but I thought I would try here anyway.
I have a 13 week old silver laced polish rooster. He hasn't crowed yet or challenged anyone. He is very calm and independent. I think he would be a great 4-H project.
I can drive to meet someone if they want him.
His name is Jagger.

SO many have Roo's but not many as beautiful as yours, great name too!

I make good truffles, even made some truffle dipped strawberry once that turned out nice. Sadly it is so hard to find good big strawberries now a days. I would grow my own but I have a brown thumb. I kill almost everything I try to grow.
 
Greetings all :) I just finished lunch and now you all are making me want dessert! LOL

I fed fermented/soaked food all last year, stopped in October when I had to travel several times for work and didn't want to saddle DH with it, now have been feeding wet again the last few months - saves so much waste! I have migrated from 2 bowls to a bucket now, and feed twice a day. My mix (I add this twice a day with new water and stir) is a scoop of starter, scoop of grower, scoop of Ranchway All Grain Poultry Feed, and 2-3 scoops of home mixed scratch, which is rolled oats, whole wheat, cracked corn, milo, millet, and alfalfa meal. I give chicks grit and they get the same wet food as everyone else. They clean it up twice a day. They have free access to crumble but have eaten considerably less since I started giving them wet food again. The SIlkies mainly turn up their beaks at the wet food, but all the others seem to like it quite well.

One thing to note about fermented food for anyone thinking of trying it - use glass or plastic, or stainless steel if you must use metal. The FF may react with other metals in ways not beneficial to your chickens.

Gardendufus I agree with Ashdoes, the one chick looks like a Legbar cockerel.

I haven't told the story here yet, and I will make it brief - I bought what I thought was a trio of LF Cochins which turned out to be Bantams - my fault for not doing my homework. They are adorable, but I was after LF; if anyone is interested in them or their offspring PM me. They came with 6 chicks. Turns out it's a lot harder to predict end-result color on Bantam Cochin chicks. 5 looked solid black on arrival, now I am seeing some possible mottling and blue on a couple of them. The male is black, the females are blue, and apparently the male and one of the females is carrying the gene for chocolate. One of the chicks is chocolate. It is also extremely slow feathering. I know I need to get some pics posted, time has been so dear lately. Hoping to have time over the next 3 days. The hens have both started laying again, and I've put some eggs in the incubator, so there will hopefully be chicks in a few weeks as well :)
