Why did I never think of that????

I'm going to have to kill him I think :(  too many roosters in this world. No one wants him.
It's a bummer because I didn't want roosters so I paid for pullets from Meyer Hatchery. I got 5 roosters our of 20 'pullet' chicks.
We ordered from Meyer as well and we think we might have one or two Roo's out of the 25 all female rainbow pack.Sorry to hear you had so many.

Hello, sort of chicken related. Eventually the girls and boys can be free ranging in the garden area. I am excited about our garden and wanted to share, it has been awhile since I had one. It feels good to get back to gardening.....here are some shots of our tomatoes

After research I believe we have one double laced Barnevelder's and 4 Cornish. Here is a top shot of feather patterns on our girl and one that is similar that I found online. Thoughts chicken peeps?

Question for incubating experts. I've got eggs going now, and some shipped eggs coming in at about day 10. How do I handle lockdown while keeping the humidity from drowning the second set of eggs?

I don't know what type of incubator you have, but I have a cabinet incubator/hatcher. When I put the eggs in lockdown, I lightly mist them with a spray bottle twice a day. Supposedly the egg absorbs the moisture before it has a chance to dramatically increase the humidity in the incubator. When hatching, my incubator never gets above 55%, and yet, I am getting 90% hatch rates doing weekly rolling hatches, and the preceding eggs are unaffected. I have found that running a humidifier in the room, and shutting the door eliminated all sticky chicks. Prior to that, I would always get a few at the end of the hatch.

The two in the first pic are definitely from me. And the one in the front of the bottom picture, also. The other one could also be from me, but I'm not positive. I got a few chicks that look like this, which is similar. Regardless, I'm glad some of mine hatched for you!

So, not many people "dry hatch" from what I'm reading? I usually keep mine low till lock down. But, I'm noticing most people like to keep it a bit higher all through.

That seems to be the consensus all around. That and maintaining greater ventilation to increase oxygen available to the eggs.

Sounds so simple... Good luck on your staggered hatch!
