How can you be sure the eggs are fertile without cracking them and looking at the blastowhatever? Don't you just assume that they are fertile until some don't hatch? (If there's a boy present, of course.) (I'm very new to this; I know that there is much that I don't know, so no snickering : )

Crack open a few and look for a bullseye.

Once you have established that you have fertile eggs coming from your ducks or hens, you can assume most (if not all) of your other eggs are fertile.

I know I am getting fertile eggs from my ducks because I also did a test batch in a homemade incubator. All 6 veined though 4 have quit. The incubator is homemade and temps have been all over the place. May not get any ducks out of the hatch, but I know my drake is doing his job

That's GREAT news on the Poultry swap!! Think we should go down there with a bunch of fuzzy butts too? It's hard to say no to little fuzzy butts. I'll bet we could sell them all day long. I know I have some laying hens I can bring too. Ooooh, I'm 'cited!

This is off topic, but did any of you CO folks get a letter from a graduate student and a survey asking you to participate in a project about your backyard flock basically regarding biosecurity?

ROFL!! That cracked me up!!

Please keep me in mind! Especially if it's the one here in the springs at America the Beautiful park. I will probably have quail then. Or even chicks...silkies if mine don't sell sooner!
