Colorado

Hello everyone!
I am new to BYC and another fellow Coloradan! I have 5 one year old hens, and 11 ten week old chicks. Preparing ourselves for integrating, which is coming fairly quick! So far the big girls despise the young ones, trying to get at them through the fence. I am brand new to adding chickens to an established flock, so any tips are much appreciated. I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong section! I did read the BYC info for newbies, but its all a bit overwhelming still!
Thanks so much!

Welcome! The first integration is the hardest and then the older chickens seem to get over it.

Thank you Rock Home Isle! I think we might have to take out a few of the big girls. They are very bossy, and peck the lower ones as it is. Already they are trying to peck and scare the littles :( thank you for your advice!

Hi fellow Colorado chicken keepers. I'm here in Northglenn where they only passed chicken keeping about 2-3 weeks ago. I ran right out, ordered my coop, got my license and got my 2 chicks.

Welcome to the Colorado thread! Congrats on getting all set to go. Did they limit you to 2 or was that by your choice?

Just waiting for the chicken math to set in lol.

I have 34 now and funny.... I have Ideal Hatchery open in another tab. I may be in trouble lol.

What breeds did you get? Any pics? (like Latestarter said it is kind of required

Lots of great people on here as you may already have guessed.

Welcome @PugNChicks !

@ThePaulsRanch thanks for sharing the pictures.Good looking birds. I've got no guess on the genders, sorry. If no one here has any ideas you could try posting a thread in the "What breed or gender is this?" section under the Chicken Breed forum. I just posted a thread asking about my EE and got some helpful responses. Just remember to also post the ages of the birds when you post pictures. I've looked at enough of the posts to know they always want to know the age.

Greetings @PugNChicks Welcome to BYC and the Colorado thread. Congrats on becoming a certified(able) Chickeneer... or, well, you soon will be one

I had read in the news about Northglenn considering "legalizing" chickens... Crazy how everyone accepts that we can only do what the government specifically allows us to do, isn't it? Like innocent until proven guilty, today everything is NOT allowed unless specifically stated as such. Kinda wonder what's become of the "freedom" we all believe we have (had). Anyway, not trying to stir any pots here. Hope you'll share some chick pics when the time comes! Glad you joined us!

@ThePaulsRanch I would tend to agree that the crowing bird is a roo... The other two do look "henish" to me... (I know, they're really still pullets, but "pulletish" didn't sound real correct...). You have some good looking birds.

@21hens-incharge Really? you have a hatchery site opened in another tab?

Yes they have some great deals going on too. If I got 25 heavy pullets they would be 2 bucks each. AND THE DUCKS!!!!! If I got 20 Hatchery Choice ducks they would be a dollar fifty each.

I don't know maybe...........

I need therapy.

Welcome! Good luck with the integration. Mine are slowly learning to be friends and they are only 3 weeks apart in age lol.
