We also hatched all roosters this year so you all get stuck seeing their pictures instead of pullets. :) They are pretty that is for sure...oh and growing like weeds. The grey one has figured out how to operate the rat proof chicken feeder, he likes to sit on the lever mechanism rather than standing.

@Robilyn81 - handsome roo!

@uzisuzuki glad your birds are ok and keep us posted, what do they suggest to do for a roo with scoliosis?

I would love a rooster, but have stuck with hens because I have 3 young kiddos that love the chickens. Anyone comfortable with their rooster around kids?

We had a HUGE Roo that was great around babies/ kids/ anyone and he has fathered/ grand-fathered the birds that we have now.
There are some very nice birds out there, you just have to be willing to part with the ones that don't work. Right now, I have a crew of youngsters that all seem to be nice . My original roo was a mixed breed bird from a farm that I am sure weeded out the nasty tempered ones and the nice ones got to stick around and tend to their business.

I have no real experience with this rooster and kids. My granddaughter goes around him with no problems, but my chickens aren't free ranging yet, either. He is always is sweet to me and he protects the other two (lets them eat first, plays nicely). I thought he was a pullet until just a few days ago! You are certainly welcome to come see him. I would love to know that he is going to a good home.

Thank you everyone! By chance does anyone know of anyplace in the greater Denver area that might have bantam chicks in stock? Wardle is out, however, I did find some at Northern CO Feeders Supply in Fort Collins. That's a bit of a drive for me but I'll do it if there isn't anyplace closer.

Did you try Golden Mill? I don't know if they still have chicks, but you could call. 303-279-1151.

I called Wardle Feed and asked about taking my roo to the chicken swap in a couple of weeks. The guy was real honest with me and said cockerels don't sell well, unless you are offering a flock with hens also. Sigh. They also are full with boys at the moment and aren't taking anymore. They charge $15 to take your rooster. Sigh. I'm going to go see the Jason Bourne movie to lift my spirits.

Well, since it seems to be a topic, I am selling my present place and moving. I've been telling the prospective buyers that if they want to have the chickens, I'll leave them as it will be a royal PITA to try to move them with me. If anyone here is interested, they are all a little over 2 years old, 6 BA hens that were with a rooster till about 2-3 weeks ago when that roo attacked me and met his maker. 6 BO hens (or maybe it's 5) with a roo. One of the hens has a badly damaged wing join, but she's a fighter and won't give up, so I haven't culled her. Then there are 3 New Hampshires with a roo, and finally 4 White Wyandottes with a WW roo and a Delaware roo. If anyone is interested, let me know.
